TURNING PUMPS INTO SMART DEVICES WITH SULZER
October 15, 2018
Treon has partnered with Sulzer to codevelop a wireless condition monitoring device for rotating machinery such as pumps and agitators in variety of industries.
“We are thrilled to work in close cooperation with an industry leader to design the Treon Industrial Node. Sulzer’s long heritage and expertise in pumping solutions ensures that the product is built for real-life needs and conditions,” says Janne Julkunen, Chief Product Officer at Treon.
Condition monitoring helps to identify changes in machinery condition parameters and indicate potential faults at an early stage. The new monitoring device will measure machine vibrations and temperature to detect possible imbalance, misalignment, looseness and bearing wear, and thus improve predictive maintenance.
CONDITION MONITORING BENEFITS THE CUSTOMERS
Monitoring systems are common in process critical applications, whereas in other areas, monitoring has not been widely used because of the high costs related with the technology. Advancements in sensor and wireless radio technologies enable wider condition monitoring of all process equipment at reasonable costs.
“As we can connect more physical devices to the Internet of Things, there is an enormous potential to convert data from the devices to the benefit of our customers”, says Raimo Metsola, Head of Digitalization and Business Processes, Industry business unit at Sulzer. “The cooperation with Treon will provide us with exactly the right tools to do so.”
The jointly developed devices will be battery powered and they will operate in a wireless mesh network, which means that the devices are easy and cost-efficient to deploy and operate in large numbers.
The Treon Industrial Node will be launched to the market during 2019.
